Only the inner gel of the leaves should be taken, as the outer portion of the leaf contains substances which can cause diarrhoea.
The gel can be scraped out with a sharp knife, from leaves which are fully grown and shortly about to turn yellow.
This gel can be spread onto Irish moss, an herb which contains a natural gelling agent called carrageen, which absorbs it to get an even gel.
A little sodium benzoate may be added as a preservative.
Preserved aloe gel can be diluted with water when needed or blended into fresh fruit juice, to make a tasty aloe drink!
